Call for Application: African Women Leadership Institute (AWLI) by AMwA and WACSI

The West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) in partnership with Akina Mama WA Afrika (AMwA) is pleased to invite applications from interested and qualified persons to a 5-day training on “Economic Justice for Women working in the Oil and Gas sector”.

The training which is specially designed for African women is scheduled to hold from March 31 – April 4, 2014 in Accra, Ghana with primary focus on “Economic Rights of Women”, mainly in Oil and Gas sector. It also seeks to strengthen the capacities of African women to effectively influence related policies and build a regional network of women in the extractive industry in Nigeria, Liberia and Ghana.

AMwA will cover the costs towards accommodation, air travel and meals. We kindly request that you cater for your medical travel insurance as AMwA does not cover this.

Applicants must be from Nigeria, Ghana and Liberia.

Job: Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa , Deputy Executive Secretary

The Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA) invites applications from suitably qualified African scholars for the post of Deputy Executive Secretary in its pan-African Secretariat located in Dakar, Senegal. This position is categorised as one of the most senior management posts in the Secretariat and the successful candidate is expected to function as part of a team of senior programme staff under the overall supervision of the Executive Secretary of the Council.

Established in 1973 as a pioneering, independent, pan-African and not-for-profit organisation for the development of the social sciences in Africa, CODESRIA is today widely recognised as the premier centre on the continent for the generation and dissemination of multidisciplinary research knowledge. The position of Deputy Executive Secretary is a key one both in the development of the programme mandate of the Council and the realisation of the strategic institutional objectives set by the General Assembly of its members.

Call for Papers :International Conference on Peace and International Relations

On the occasion of its 10th Anniversary, the Hekima Institute of Peace Studies and International Relations (HIPSIR) is holding an international conference on current key issues of concern in African socio-political and economic spheres, particularly in the areas of Peace and International Relations. HIPSIR is part of Hekima College, a constituent college of Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA). HIPSIR offers an MA degree and certificate courses in Peace Studies and International Relations.

Peace, Security & Development Fellowships for African Scholars

The ALC is pleased to announce a call for applications for the Peace, Security and Development Fellowships for African Scholars starting in September 2014. This Fellowship covers an 18-month period, comprising of a rigorous training programme on peace, security and development, which includes a 12-Month Master’s (M.Sc.) programme at King’s College London and an attachment to an African University to undertake an independent research project. The Fellowship programme is designed to expose junior African scholars to the complexities of Security and Development issues facing the African continent. The Carnegie Corporation of New York has provided funding for this programme.
