One Acre Fund Government Analyst (Multiple)

One Acre Fund works closely with local and national governments. Our principal focus is the Ministry of Agriculture in countries where we operate, but we also pay close attention to other actors in the agricultural sector. Our government relations team supports field operations to provide vital services to farmers. It also informs our wider policy, communications, and outreach work.

We are seeking three government relations analysts for our team: a Rwanda analyst, a Kenya analyst, and an East Africa analyst. All positions will have the following responsibilities: Oversee a team of multiple local government relations staff; Research and analyze policy issues at local and national levels affecting the country’s agricultural sector; Maintain One Acre Fund relations with key agricultural sector actors such as regulators, research institutions, donor programs, partner organizations, and local media; Support One Acre Fund relations with national government figures, organizations, regulators and researchers; Enhance quarterly reports, organized field visits, and overall local government outreach; Develop the capacity of our local government team through detailed work planning, strategic thinking, skills training, and mentoring; Interpret and explain policies and laws applicable to One Acre Fund field operations; Produce publications for media, conferences, and One Acre Fund stakeholders.

School of Data Fellow (South Africa, Tanzania, other countries possible)

As a School of Data fellow, you will receive data and leadership training, as well as coaching to organise events and build your community. You will be part of a six-month training programme where we expect you to work with us for an average of five days a month, including attending online and offline trainings, organising events, and being an active member of the School of Data Community.

Must be data savvy; understand the role of NGOs and media in bringing positive change through advocacy, campaigns, and storytelling; interested or experienced in working with journalism and/or civil society; has some facilitation skills and enjoys community-building (both online and offline).

US Institute of Peace Call for Concept Notes

USIP will make two or three grants to Sub-Saharan African universities for these universities to strengthen their peace studies or conflict resolution programs. Activities eligible for funding will include experiential learning programs for students, exchange programs, partnerships between universities, establishing opportunities for student research, improving the quality of instruction, and attracting and retaining high-quality staff. USIP will not fund construction projects or faculty research. To accompany the grants, USIP will provide the grantees access to its online courses as well as a set of USIP’s relevant books. These grants will be made through an open two-step application process. Applicants will first submit concept notes, and a then a select number of applicants will be invited to submit full grant proposals, which will be adjudicated through the standard procedure.

USIP is currently accepting concept notes for this grant competition. Concept notes will only be accepted from legally registered universities in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The Engine Room Southern Africa Regional Lead

The Southern Africa regional project lead will be responsible for selecting local partners, engaging directly with local partners to identify needs, co-creating work plans with local partners, advising the project manager on priorities for matchmaking with experts, managing relationships between support providers and local partners, contributing to the overall pilot documentation process, and providing input and support in the strategy development of the pilot.

The regional project lead is a 50% position, will be compensated competitively, and will be working in direct collaboration with the project lead and the Latin American regional lead. The ideal candidate for the Southern Africa regional lead position will live in Southern Africa and will speak fluent English and one local language. This candidate will also have strong networks with civil society and activist communities in Southern Africa; a demonstrated interest in issues of transparency, accountability, and/or other social change work; very, very strong communication skills and ability to effectively work remotely with the engine room team and local partners; experience working with advocacy projects using technology; and an understanding of how organizations work, learn, and adapt.

OSIWA Call for Proposals

OSIWA primarily awards grants to local organizations based in West Africa. In rare and limited circumstances, it provides support to West Africa-based international organizations with a strong commitment to transfer knowledge to local groups they partner with. It provides grants to government institutions as well as regional and sub-regional organizations working in its core priorities areas. OSIWA requires all organizations seeking funding to submit a completed application form, budget, work plan monitoring and evaluation framework and other relevant documents including leadership information (list of Board members, trustees and management), staff who will be involved in the project, proof of registration and banking details.

Visa Innovation Grants

NetHope and Visa are pleased to announce a second series of Visa Innovation Grants for development and non-profit organizations seeking to adopt or expand the use of electronic payments in their programs and operations. In 2013, NetHope and Visa launched the Visa Innovation Grants and awarded five grants to non-profit humanitarian and development organizations to support their innovation, implementation and adoption of electronic transfers and payments within their programs and organizations.

In the review of Visa Innovation 2014 grant applications, preference will be given to projects in specific geographies and for application of electronic payments in projects in specific sectors. Specifically, NetHope and Visa strongly encourage submission of proposals for projects in the geographies including Bangladesh, Brazil, India, Mexico and East Africa. In addition, projects applying innovative use of e-payments in the sectors of Agriculture, Health, Education, Emergency Relief, Community-based Savings/Lending and Microfinance are encouraged.

West African Peacebuilding Institute

The West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP) is one of the leading peacebuilding organizations in Africa. The mandate of WANEP is to build the capacity of peacebuilding, development and human rights practitioners in Africa and worldwide on peace and security issues to promote and protect human security through context specific tools and indigenous techniques.  To fulfil this mandate, WANEP in partnership with the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC), holds each year a four-week course on peacebuilding in Accra, Ghana.
