IJR Public Dialogue on ‘Challenging corrupt networks – the long shadow from Apartheid to State Capture’

June 1, 2017 @ 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM

Join our partners at IJR in a discussion on the root causes of state capture in South Africa and the consequences that this has for ordinary citizens. The panel of civil society researchers and activists will look at strategies for challenging corrupt networks from both the apartheid period and the present day.

The event will also discuss the findings of Apartheid Guns and Money book written with support from the IJR,  which finally lifts the lid on some of the darkest secrets of apartheid’s economic crimes. It weaves together a treasure trove of newly declassified  documents and eyewitness accounts. This is an expose of the machinery created in defense of apartheid and in support of sanctions busting and  the people who profited: heads of state, arms  dealers, aristocrats, plutocrats, senators, bankers, spies, journalists and members of secret lobby groups. In creating the apartheid arms money machine they were complicit in a crime against humanity. Whistle blowers were assassinated and ordinary people suffered. Finally, this network of profit is revealed.
